No Hanging with the Parents

Jerry asked LG last night what she wanted to do today after school, and she said she didn’t know. He asked if she might want to go for a boat ride. She promptly said that she didn’t think she liked boat rides, and that she might want to ride her bike. Jerry then asked her if she could think of something that we could all do together, and she walked away in a huff. Evidently, it’s not cool to hang out with ones parents. We followed her to her room and suggested that we could all go on a bike ride together and she snapped, “I don’t care.” Then she rolled over to go to sleep.

She’s gotten so used to riding around the neighborhood all night with her friends Ashlynn, Abbey, and Briana. It feels as if she’s got her own life these days separate from us after school. I know that it’s my fault because I just let her go play because it’s easier, but I feel like I need to reign it in a bit, or soon we won’t know her at all separate from her friends. Jerry suggested that we have family night one night a week. It’s a good idea, and I hope that we can make it work.
